Grammy award-winning artist, producer, actor, and activist Wyclef Jean announces his visionary new show, #RunThatBack, now streaming on YouTube. Not your typical series, Wyclef goes deep as he speaks with some of the world’s most influential cultural icons who share their realest, rawest, and most revealing stories. Episodes 1 through 4 are now available, which include Emmy winner Lena Waithe listening to an unbelievable (and unreleased) studio track of Whitney Houston (watch clip), Arista Records legend Clive Davis also talking about Whitney and his upcoming “no holds barred” biopic about her life (watch clip), and sixteen-time Grammy winner Kirk Franklin listening to Wyclef’s Caribbean-tinged remix of his new song “Love Theory” (watch clip).
Dropping each Thursday until the end of October, Episode 5 features Rapsody on 9/17 (watch clip) and Episode 6 with A$AP Ferg is due 9/24. RunThatBack will also be available in audio form the following day on all major podcasting platforms. Watch the series trailer here.
Uniquely original, RunThatBack premiered on August 20th and reflects the more casual yet personal and sometimes unfiltered atmosphere that the challenges of this year have brought into our social climate. Some of the biggest names in music, politics, society, and sports sit down virtually with Wyclef and bring their insightful, inspirational, and often hilarious experiences to the table, including Lena Waithe, Clive Davis, Gunna, will.i.am, Shaquille O’Neal, Common, PK Subban, Carlos Santana, Rapsody, Teddy Riley, Beenie Man, and many more. RunThatBack is a one-of-a-kind show for music and culture lovers of all types, and when a guest is having a dialogue with Wyclef, there’s no telling where things will go or what will happen. As Clef himself says, “I ain’t really good at interviews, but what I am good at is conversations with my friends.”
In an exciting collaboration with BACARDÍ rum, Wyclef serves up these untold stories over signature rum cocktails, like the BACARDÍ Mojito, Spiced & Cola and Cuba Libre, from his rockstar life as a founding member of the iconic group The Fugees in segments like “Rum Talk” and “Toast Up.” Thought-provoking and honest, Wyclef frequently begins an episode with either a song snippet and/or a story from his own life while Madeline Nelson, Founder and CEO of Heads Music (his label and management) periodically joins him toward the end to discuss social, global, and/or trending topics. As Wyclef says, “A lot of the things you’re gonna hear, you ain’t really gonna believe. So you’ve got no choice but to ‘Run That Back!’”
RunThatBack is co-created by Malka Media and Executive Producer Louis Krubich, the team behind hit shows: All The Smoke, Morning Kombat, Get Some with Gary Owen, 4th and Forever and the upcoming Fox documentary Tua. “Wyclef is a cross generational talent that connects music and culture and we’re humbled by the opportunity to help amplify the stories he wants to tell,” says Krubich. Creative Director and Showrunner Kerry Laster was instrumental in the cutting edge and of-the-moment milieu surrounding the show. Regarding collaborator Laster, Krubich states, “Having Kerry Laster showrun and direct this series is wildly exciting for us. He is a true creative genius and someone we highly respect.”
