RMS Titanic, Inc., (RMST) announced today that it is launching a community education and outreach program focused on bringing the scientific, recovery, conservation, historical and research behind Titanic to students and educators both in and out of the classroom. Utilizing the latest technology and the world’s leading Titanic experts, the program will initially focus on virtual opportunities for educators and expand into the classroom throughout the school year.
The partnership between the Los Angeles Unified School District, James Cameron and RMS Titanic, Inc. focuses on a five-week summer engagement series on Titanic. More than 750 students will participate in The Unsinkable Titanic- The Ship of Dreams, Past, Present and Future and will take part in a series of lectures from renown historians, notables such as James Cameron and culminates in a virtual tour of the “Titanic Vault” where artifacts undergoing conservation or remain on rest reside. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to utilize Titanic: The Virtual Experience, an online exhibition that takes visitors through Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition in Las Vegas. The experience allows individuals to become a passenger on Titanic and learn about life on board, stories of passengers and crew, all while viewing more than 400 artifacts recovered directly from the wreck site of Titanic. Students will apply the experience, developed by RMS Titanic, Inc. and VRD, to participate in an online scavenger hunt, complete research projects and explore into aspects of Titanic that spark their respective interests. www.thetitanicstore.com
