Booze, Broads and Blackjack was supposed to premiere in California April 10th. But that never happened thanks to Covid-19. Despite the disappointing setback – it still managed to scoop up several awards on both coasts.
The fast paced, gritty gangster production stars Vincent Pastore as an east coast strip club owner. It follows the exploits of his gambling, philandering nephew Jack King, (Joe Raffa) who is a radio personality, but side hustles for his uncle.
When the hapless deejay goes to a Vegas celebrity Blackjack Tournament, his mob boss uncle demands Jack conduct some wise guy business there. A serious dilemma with no shortage of lighthearted moments soon unfolds. Many twists and turns await in this brisk adventure, winding through the streets of Las Vegas to an unexpected ending.
The independent film was directed by Hectic Film’s Rickey Bird Jr and written by novelist Carl Nicita, who penned the book the movie is based on.
Despite the premiere setback, it was entered into the Los Angeles and New York film awards in April and came away a winner in both competitions.
The feature was nominated Best Picture in the LAFA and won Best Crime Film. It was also nominated Best Picture in the New York festival and again won Best Crime Film.
In another contest Pastore was nominated Best in the Fest in the Actors Awards Los Angeles. He received honors as Best Actor in a Crime Film. Co-star Sarah French won Best Actress in a Crime Film as well.
While waiting to find out when the premiere can be rescheduled the producers are actively seeking a national and worldwide distributor and look forward to releasing the film to the general public in the near future.
