Gilmore Girls ended in 2007, yet its fans continue to want more. They’ve watched every episode countless times. They travel from around the world to attend fan festivals. What is it about this show that keeps captivating new audiences?
That’s what Kristi Carlson and Tim Kelly, a husband and wife team, have set out to answer.
The documentary they’re creating, titled Daisies & Dragonflies, has a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $72,000 to cover post-production costs. Fans can pre-order a digital copy of the 90-minute film plus Bonus Footage for $25 and expect to receive it in June, 2020.
For folks who recognize Carlson’s name, it’s likely because she authored two cookbooks based on the show: the #1 Amazon best-selling book, “Eat Like A Gilmore” (Skyhorse Publishing, 2016) and its successor, Daily Cravings (Skyhorse Publishing, 2018). While promoting the books, this pair realized just how passionate and loyal Gilmore Girls fans are. Kelly, a fan of Star Trek, said, “They remind me of Trekkies!”.
Carlson belongs in this group. In the Kickstarter video she says, “I’ve watched this show for over 19 years, ever since it first came out in the year 2000.” while dressed up as a character from the show.
She goes on to explain, “What is it that makes this show so timeless, and so special? I want to find out.”.
Later in the video, Carlson reveals she and Kelly have already filmed brand new interviews with 20 people; cast, crew & writers who worked on the show, including actors Sally Struthers (Babette Dell), Jackson Douglas (Jackson Belleville), Todd Lowe (Zack Van Gerbig), Rose Abdoo (Gypsy/Berta), Marion Ross (Lorelai “Trix” Gilmore/Marilyn Gilmore), John Cabrera (Brian Fuller), Aris Alvarado (Caesar), Rini Bell (Lulu), and Biff Yeager (Tom)….with many more to come.
